Erin has been coach and mentor to many upcoming performers who have pursued their own professional careers in performance and recording, and even had a couple go on to become great singing teachers too! She has had students gain roles in professional level musicals, lead vocalists who auditioned among thousands in the State School Spectacular and trained many through their VCE music. Above all, many who have gained a higher level of self-confidence and a positive outlook through their love of singing and the power of the ‘emotion-centred singing’ technique.
‘Erin Blackie Singing Academy’ opened it’s doors in May, 2024 following the closure of the Jaanz International Singing Academy which Erin was an Advanced level vocal coach for since 2005 until it’s closure. She was also the official ‘Rock Coach’ and ‘Classical Coach’ for the Jaanz school, as well as songwriting mentor at many events. ONLINE LESSONS

Erin teaches online primarily for students outside of Melbourne, who can be anywhere in the world. If you're an International student, all lessons are conducted in English. However songs can be in any language :) So far Erin has taught students in Japan, Korea, India, the U.K. and the U.S.A.
In addition to lessons, there are online events conducted twice a year. You are also welcome to participate in Melbourne events, should you ever visit J
Please read the above ‘Lessons’ section for more info on what EBSA singing lessons are about.
The tech info
We use Zoom for online lessons and you will be given full instructions on how to set this up and your environment prior to your first session. However, this is the outline on how this works: Most students need 2 devices, one to Zoom with and the other to play the pre-recorded scales and your music for your song. Zoom will work on any devices, PC or Mac, desktop, laptop, tablet or a phone. A decent internet connection is also necessary.
The main difference with online lessons is that there is a slight delay from when I speak and you hear it and vice versa over the internet/phone. For conversation it isn't overly noticeable, however it means that I can't play for you to sing along when I need to hear you without it sounding for me that you're quite out of time, and would be the same if I was trying to sing along with you. However, it is easy enough to work around lessons with my pre-recorded scales and class songs that are also for your own practice outside of class. You would have your own music or access via YouTube to play as well, however you normally practice your song. This way you will hear it clearly and I'll also hear you singing along with your scales in the right time :)
‘POP CLASSICAL’ LESSONS

‘Pop classical’ is an emotive approach to classical for the contemporary singer. These lessons are in addition to your regular lessons with the view of supporting and adding to what you are already learning.

Private lessons are tailored to the individual student, particularly dependent on your current singing background and goals with exploring/developing a classical approach. These lessons are separate to Erin’s regular lessons as classical is a specialized area with techniques that differ, but can certainly be incorporated with contemporary styles. While techniques differ, the emotional connection you already learn in your regular lessons will cross over into your approach with classical as well.

Singers working on ballads or songs with a large range, in particular will experience the benefits of working through the classical elements of head voice and breathing.
Students should already have a good grasp of pitch and basic singing techniques before embarking on these lessons. If you’re unsure, I will be more than happy to discuss if you will benefit from these lessons at this point in time.
CLASSICAL BACKGROUND

Erin started learning classical singing as a young teen. After pursuing contemporary styles beyond that with David Jaanz as coach since 2001, she returned to classical with David in 2010 with a more ‘popera’ approach, incorporating emotion-centred singing.

Erin has been lead singer/songwriter and producer of her band ‘Death of Art’ for a number of years. This brings together her unique crossover of vocal skills with rock and her prowess as a powerful classical soprano through an intensely theatrical performance. Even with her solo performances, she brings a very emotive musical theatre and classical crossover experience.

Early 2017 Erin completed a course in Orchestration through world-renowned school for music production, Berklee College. This is Erin's 4th Berklee subject and finishing this course with an 'A' grade she currently holds a 4.0 grade average in the American education system, having also completed subjects in production, mixing and mastering. For her final piece in her orchestration course, Erin wrote a short piece for a full symphonic orchestra (about 80 players) with a completed production piece and notated score. These skills have allowed Erin to explore past the vocal of classical and further her skills in writing and production of her own songs as well.

Please also visit the ‘Solo Classical’ page on this website for clips of Erin’s classical performances.
